Yea I really like that too” he said.
He was tall, strong build, dark hair, light eyes and killer long eyelashes. What we were talking about didn’t matter. What his name was didn’t matter. Even if it did matter I wouldn’t be able to tell you either of those answers. Not because I wasn’t interested in him, but because I wasn’t listening to a word this gorgeous man was saying.
Instead I was lost in my own thoughts, because I noticed, that this was the “first time” I did it.
The first time that while talking to a guy I felt compelled to glance down at his left hand. The second it happened I hoped he didn’t noticed, “I was so obvious he must have caught me,” I thought. But he just kept gabbing away. The gesture itself, quickly glancing down, was somewhat subconscious and yet the sheer act of it surprised me.
He continued to go on and on about work and I was smiling and nodding thinking,…"When the hell did this happen? When did I get to that age that it became common practice to glance at the left hand and check for a wedding band?"
I don’t feel old; well I guess most of us don’t feel old. Age is just a number; it’s how you feel. That’s what everyone always said right? Until now, I never really thought about all that mumbo jumbo. The age discussion was foreign to me. Something I didn’t have to worry about, hey, “I’m only 20something” and I am still holding onto “forever young.”
