Every Wednesday my friends and I get together for wine, pizza, and hot
tubbing. Conversation always turns philosophical and there are always
things that are either hilarious or interesting to discuss after. So, I
am introducing my new weekly series Hot Tub Revelations.
Look, I even made a pretty picture for it. That makes it legitimate.
My friend Stacey is a high school history teacher and has, what she
calls, mandatory office hours. Every student is required to stop by to
chat so that she can get to know everyone a little better. She has a
list of questions that she picks from to pry open their teenage facades.
One questions is "What is the craziest thing you've done or seen?"
Well, does that mean crazy spontaneous or crazy stupid? In high school I
did plenty of stupid things.. raves in Berkeley while my dad thought I
was safe at someone house sleeping over. There was alcohol drinking too
early. Sneaking out. Driving with people in my trunk.
There are spontaneous days and trips and experiences that probably felt
crazy at the start-- but because they ALWAYS end up being all sorts of
kick ass in retrospect, they don't feel crazy. I've jumped out of an
airplane. Traveled for two weeks in a tiny manual car in Ireland (Read:
On the other side of the road... weird).
Is crazy bad? I've never been arrested. Not even close. The only time
I have ever received a speeding ticket-- I thanked the police office (I
had just met Maroon 5, and was pretty much on cloud 9. In fact, he
COULD have arrested me, and I would have smiled all the way to jail.)
Stacey, whom I love more than life, thought for a really long time about
what her craziest moment was. And here's verbatim what she said:
"So, in high school. My friends and I sidewalk chalked someones house. But then we got scared and washed it off at 4am."
We all laughed that her craziest adventure really could be summed up by
saying I almost side-walk-chalked someone house.. but I am wondering now
what's the craziest thing you've done/seen?
Do you want to be more crazy? Or are you grateful to have gotten
through your life in one piece despite the crazy things you've done?
Discuss.
