Tomorrow is the day I move into Apartment Heaven.
Which means today is the day I have to finish (eh, start) my packing.
The toughest thing for me when it comes to moving is trying to decide what to keep and what to toss.
You know that scene in the first Sex and the City Movie where all the girls help Carrie pack up her apartment?
Music's playing, Champagne is flowing and Carrie puts on an epic fashion show?
That scene is the biggest display of bullshit that I have ever seen.
Packing is not fun. There is no song on the planet that makes me want to jump up and down while sorting through the items I've thrown into the back of my closet.
And boozing while packing is the most unproductive way to get organized.
Give me alcohol and music, and I give you, me, at a bar, not packed.
Moving is one activity I like to stay sober for.
The only positive thing about moving is that it forces you to throw out all the crap you've been pushing into the back of your closet, hoping it would mysteriously go away.
Things I've discovered while packing-
A calendar from 2007.
The shoes I wore to Prom.
Food that's been in my fridge since the day I moved in.
Six computer bags (I own one computer).
I've also discovered that I'm sentimental. For instance, I can't even imagine throwing away my dogs first collar. I feel like such a sappy loser.
I guess who's to say what's important and what's not. Maybe we all like to shove things into the back of our closets because than we don't have to make a decision.
If I keep this up though, I'm going to need a bigger closet.
Wish me cyber luck.
