The Bloggers With The Most To Say
Who Drinks Coffee After 8:00 pm?
Oh friends, this week is going to be a whirlwind of ridiculousness. Just thinking about this is making me feel whelmed. I work at the coffee shop four days this week, as opposed to the two I started out with, for 20 hours ($160 before tax... HOLLA!) It is strange that I feel the need to complain, because you all know I have no money, but please let me explain! Don't banish me from your blog lists just yet!
First, because I am new, I get the shittiest barista hours know to coffee slingers! My shift is usually from 3:00pm to close (which varies between 9 and 10). This means I have the after school crowd (lots of elementary schoolers) who all have gift cards their parents get them which equates to me making lots of milkshakes and getting about 52 cents in tips. Then I have some people who come in before their late night shifts start, and one regular who comes every day whose name is Harold. But my friends, the yarns I could spin for you about that brunette hating, cat freezing, molester driving van man will have to wait for another day. He tips me exactly 2 cents every day. Thanks Harold!
Then from about 6 or 7 pm til close I wait.
And wait.
And wait.
And probably two people will come in, because really, who drinks coffee after 8:00pm? Not many people, I can assure you. So I start to clean, get the sinks ready for the dishes (no dishwasher), watch some SVU, text my friends, and wait some more.
It is very, very boring. But, I get paid to do it, so I brought a book and have been reading Homage to Catalonia by George Orwell. I'm liking it so far. I wish I was in Barcelona right now... Anyway, I am incredibly thankful for this job, but wish it allowed me to see my boyfriend which I can't because I work close on Friday and open on Saturday. Rough stuff when you go from 0 to 20 in two weeks. But, again, you need to make money to spend money.
The other reason why this week is going to be bat-shit insane is because I MOVE ON THURSDAY!!!! Into the Ocean Ave. beach house I can't afford!!!! AHHH!!! Rent is $400 a month and God knows how much utilities will end up being, this is my first time paying rent and both my roommates have lived out of state and we don't really know any renters we feel comfortable asking. I started to figure out my finances to the right, but I will have a way better idea once I move into the house, so look for that to get updated after November 1st. After that I can also apply for foodstamps. My room is a disaster right now and the future roommates and I have not discussed how we will be moving our beds etc. into said house. This is going to be quite an adventure.
On Saturday, I am traveling with the roommates up to NY (state not city) to visit our good friend from high school who is having a housewarming party. Very exciting!!! She is a rock in my life, a faithful and loving friend, and I can't wait to see her and drink, relax, and just enjoy each others company.
On Monday, I get knee surgery to repair my torn ACL in my left knee and fix up some of the cartilage damage I've done in there. It's a same day surgery, but I have a ridiculously strong reaction to painkillers. I do not understand how people can use them recreationally, because I pass out and black out like I've just done 12 shots of vodka in five minutes. So keep your eyes peeled for a guest blogger next week as I try to recover as fast as possible so I can make my rent!! I wonder if this will get rid of the numb spot I've had in my knee after my partial tear in 2002? Not sure, but it will give me the ability to set off metal detectors in a single bound! If I get an x-ray that shows the screws I will definitely post it up here for all of you to enjoy!!!
So as you can see, this girl is a real mover, shaker and coffee maker!
