20 Something Bloggers

The Bloggers With The Most To Say

When I bought my own domain -- Behind the Byline -- and transitioned to the new blog, I thought it was a great step in the right direction. Finally, I solidified myself as a "real" blogger who would take the process way more seriously.

I announced the new blog on my old one, I made note of it repeatedly on Twitter. Yet I encountered a HUGE problem.

Very few of my readers followed me to my new digs.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? And if so, what have you done to rectify the situation? I love blogging -- even if nobody reads -- but I kinda miss my readers. There weren't too many to begin with, but now there's fewer, ha. And damn it, I want 'em back!

It depends on where your blog was originally hosted, but maybe you could redirect everyone who visits that address to your new domain. Check out how to do that on Google.

If that's not an option, just make sure your most recent post has a big image on it saying you've moved and link it to your new site. I think people will get the hint that way.
I've already repeatedly posted on my old blog that I've moved, so maybe I'll have to look into the other option and see if it's feasible. Good suggestion though.
I sorta feel your pain. I revamped my blog- new url, new layout... all fresh - all new. Only downside is i lost all my old comments :(

But... it's good to start all over every now and again- Or- now and a Jenn... :)

i'm sure you'll get your readers back!! Give them something to come back to!!
You lost all your comments? Ugh, I'd be bummed, too. And I like the cleverness of the blog title. I'll have to check it out.
Oh no! Although it may take a little bit of effort, I suggest that you see who was following on your last site, visit their blogs, and leave a comment letting them know that you've moved, here is the new URL, etc. I think the personal reach out would have a higher success rate than your other methods. Good luck!
But I'm afraid that might look too much like I'm going to their site simply to promote my own, and that's certainly not something I want.
I just switched from Blogger over to self-hosted WordPress, and I lost all my followers as well. Either tomorrow or Friday I plan on going to comment on all their blogs, hoping they'll get the hint if they click back to my blog. A couple have done that already, but I'm hoping more will follow.
I think that people who don't blog on the blogger platform (and that is something like seventy percent of all blogger or maybe 64 percent not sure) do not use a follower widget if that is what you are talking about...but ... the best thing to do is promote your feed, at least in my opinion, because the majority of blog readers read via a feed.
Good suggestion. I use GReader and a lot of others do, too, so maybe just sharing my posts for them to see would pull some people back. Thanks.
I've been wanting to switch from my Blogger blog to a self-hosted Wordpress blog, but this is a problem I'm worried about as well. I have a little over 100 followers on Google Reader and I've worked hard to get to that point (which feels like a lot for me! Hehe!) I was thinking of hosting a giveaway when I move to give people a little more incentive to follow me over, haha. Bribe them!

I hope you find your followers! Sometimes, it just takes people a while to actually update their Readers and bookmarks. I would definitely agree with commenting to let people know you've switched. (And you don't necessarily have to tell everyone you've moved. Just comment, because I know I always look at the blog URL & knew you had switched over so I changed it in my Reader.)

But this gives me even LESS incentive to move. Eep!
Can you map the old blog to the new one - at least temporarily so everyone can easily find you?
Map? In what way?
