I think its interesting that hardly any of the people who know me or hang out with me read my blog. Especially considering they are on facebook for hours getting the latest updates. It's like a culture of wanting to keep tabs, but not actually find out genuine information.
Is this the same for you? Are bloggers just a certain breed?
I don't really have RL friends, by choice. Most of the 20s (and even older) we meet are just interested in partying, getting drunk and sleeping around. The few people we HAVE connected with, were while working seasonal jobs and they've (or we've) moved away. Plus, honestly... A night home with my wife > going out anywhere. ^_^
I do, however, give my "online" friends my blog. And I say that in quotations 'cause even if we're not face-to-face we're RL friends. :P As for family, of COURSE my wife has my blog. We have each others passwords, same bank account, etc. so obviously I wouldn't hide a blog from her.
Family, no, 'cause they're not interested in blogging/reading blogs. :/
My blog was originally formatted to be one to allow my family to keep up with me since I'm in CA and they're in NC. Since then, it has kind of just evolved into a place where I store my daily musings, rants and raves. I still try to keep them updated through the blog but now it's more in the form of an article than a casual update. They also know that they read my blog at their own peril, so I'm not responsible if they see something they don't like.
i send my mother selected posts via email; the ones that don't mention boobs, porn, weed, etc... all my friends read my blog, and i think it's awesome.
My blog feeds into my Facebook and every now and again I'll talk with a friend who will say, "Oh yeah, I knew that, I read it on your blog." However, most of the people that comment and read don't actually know me IRL. However, I feel like I've made some good bloggy friends and I wouldn't consider those friendships any less than my RL friendships.
I have some friends/family who read my blog and some who don't. I don't worry about it too much. Anyone who knows me in real life will tell you that i have no problem telling people what i think to their faces, so they can't be shocked by what they read on my blog.
There is only one friend of mine who knows that I blog. My boyfriend doesn't even know that I blog. He gives me enough crap for having a Facebook. It's not a big deal, it's not like I'm keeping anything from anyone. I just don't bother to tell everyone HEY READ MY BLOG! Blogging for me is just a way to get things out. When I'm stressed, I'll blog about it, and I'll feel a little better than I did before. If people read my blog than great. If no one reads it then I couldn't care less. My blog is for me.
I think that people prefer to read little updates on Facebook instead of reading whole blog entries. People are generally too lazy to read more than a couple of sentences at a time. It's sad, but it's true. I do think that bloggers are a different breed.
A lot of my friends/family read my blog. Although this is a bit different as a lot of what I write is meant to be taken as fiction, still there are elements of my life and it can get a little frustrating sometimes when too much is read into it. Still, I like that they support me creatively and my blog is such a huge part of who I am and what I do that I think if noone in real life read it, I would feel like they didn't know me.
I feel a little envy of those who decided not to disclose their blog to family members.
I did under the assumption that it would provide an opportunity for my family to really get to know me. I'm much more expressive with words than I am in conversation. Though it's come with its downside. But hey, its me being me, take it or leave it kind of thing.
As far as friends, I think that's great that friends are reading a lot of you blogs. I wish more of my RL friends blogged themselves, I would love to see what they write about.
Only 4 of my RL friends know that I blog but only 2 of them read it. And also, my family is not into reading blogs so I'm not really worried that they find out things about me that I think they shouldn't. :D
Most of the people who read my blog I know only through the interweb, but I do have about 10 or so RL good friends (most of whom also have blogs). Actually just the other day I got a FB msg from a girl I went to highschool with saying that she read's my blog but forgot the URL and asked if I could send it to her. I had NO idea she even knew I had a blog! I guess you can never be sure who is reading it!
