About Me:
I’m a 25 year old British girl currently living in chilly Winnipeg, Canada. I’m a proud indie kid who loves nothing more than devoting hours to keeping up with UK music and listening to BBC radio. I love graphic design, art, theatre, and creativity in general, but my heart lies in writing. I have a keen interest in psychology and the human mind, personality types (INFJ) and understanding, but am even more fascinated by the intricacies of the human heart as well as the way we perceive ourselves. I always try and look on the bright side of anything – no matter how hard things may seem I believe there’s a reason for everything and a learning experience in the toughest of challenges. Trust me.

I spent a big chunk of my life living a life I didn’t want to live; being around the wrong people, and being afraid to push myself out of my comfort zone. Allowing myself to be controlled by fear and anxiety. In the past year or so, I made the decision to get out there and do everything I was ever afraid of, and now I feel like I’ve really found who I want to be. I’ll continually push myself to grow, and gain experience and confidence. That means there’ll be goal lists floating around here every so often. It’s not an easy thing to be able to look back and say I allowed myself to be controlled by things over which I have no control – but if someone stumbles across my blog, and feels inspired to challenge themselves, push their boundaries and see how life can change… it’ll probably be the most rewarding thing in the world.

Right now I’m continuing that journey through life and falling more in love with the wonderful things the world has to offer, and fighting to change the things it doesn’t. I’m exploring my spirituality and purpose in this world, all sorts of amazing new music, diving into incredible books and continuing my love affair with the arts. I’m a huge music lover and animal lover… the list goes on. Let’s just say I’ll take love over hate any day, and work towards a better future rather than dwell on problems of the past.

There isn’t a great deal I dislike, but people who kick the back of your chair, being stuck behind slow walkers, the cold, animal cruelty, closed mindedness, and conflict are all surefire ways to make me one very sad panda.

There will always be a soft spot in my heart for William Shakespeare, Geoffrey Chaucer, Neil Gaiman, Mervyn Peake and any other master of the English language that leaves me feeling lucky to have been alive to see such beauty in words. I ramble on here about lots of things, but I secretly love to write fiction. I’m definitely a nerd. I love to curl up with a good book and occasionally wish I had my own personal TARDIS. I’m a sci-fi geek extraordinaire, and proud of it – I have a home-made WoW Night Elf costume, bought the hubby-to-be Dalek cufflinks, and... I may or may not have travelled to the US solely to go to a Star Trek convention.

The Time Traveller's Strife

Okay guys, I have to own up to something. I caved. I went to see The Time Traveller’s Wife.I’d heard bad things when it first came out and decided to wait until it hit the cheap seats; I’d loved the book so much I re-read it with Sweet immediately after I finished it the first time, and it’s become one of my most loved books ever. I knew movies based on books had a tendency to be completely disappointing and frustrating – but it was the BEST BOOK EVER – I had to see it on the big screen!Sweet…See More

What would you ask your favourite author?

I'm asking because my little city won a nation-wide contest to have Neil Gaiman come do a book signing!! He is my absolute HERO, and I totally want to meet him. But what the heck do you SAY to your absolute hero, and not look like a total prat??http://www.mcnallyrobinson.com/eventsSee More

Some days, I'm extra proud to be a sci-fi geek

This weekend, I did something I haven’t done for what feels like at least a year. And I did it two nights running. Ladies and gentlemen, this Friday and Saturday, I went to the cinema. In a world of video piracy and mass filesharing; actually deciding to go out and spend $20 on a film where you may get kicked in the back of your seat multiple times (and may end up hating anyway) hasn’t really been top of my list on a Friday night. But this weekend, Sweet and I went for a couple of good old…See More

Future Nostalgia, or Why I Hate Louis Walsh

I’m sure at some point in everyone’s online lives, they’ve been forwarded one of those “you know you’re __________ if…” emails, had a quick chuckle and felt pangs of nostalgia. I’m sitting here listening to the Wonder Years feature on my favourite radio station (an hour every Friday consisting entirely of songs from one year out of the past twenty), happily enjoying my Backstreet’s Back, remembering the days of watching Goosebumps after school, collecting POGs and taping songs off the radio,…See More

Advocation for Self-Education

Not normally one to write about politics or current events, I couldn't help but hop on the H1N1 discussion. At work, I've somehow landed myself the position of Co-Chair of the Workplace Safety and Health Committee (yes, me, I know) and naturally, the topic of H1N1 and subsequent vaccination has been a bit of a hot potato in recent meetings. I've found myself very much in the minority when I decided to sit in at lunchtimes and continue to watch…See More

That is so incredibly cool! I love it! My fave geeky moments in our wedding were movie references. We used the wedding march from "Sound of Music" instead of the traditional one and my MoH referenced "The Princess Bride" wedding ceremony (wove, twue wove and mawwiage) in her toast!

I read that you're using a custom sci-fi cake topper at your wedding. #1 that is so awesome! #2 What is it? Or are you keeping it a secret until the big day?
