Where do you live:
Winnipeg, Manitoba
Relationship Status:
Engaged
About Me:
I’m a 24 year old British girl currently living in chilly Winnipeg, Canada. I’m a proud indie kid who loves nothing more than devoting hours to keeping up with UK music and listening to BBC radio. I love photography, graphic design, art, theatre, and creativity in general. I have a keen interest in psychology and the human mind, but am even more fascinated by the intricacies of the human heart and the way in which we love. I always try and look on the bright side of anything – no matter how hard things may seem I believe there’s a reason for everything and a learning experience in the toughest of challenges.

I spent a big chunk of my life living a life I didn’t want to live; being around the wrong people, and being afraid to push myself out of my comfort zone. In the past year I made the decision to get out there and do everything I was ever afraid of, and now I feel like I’ve really found who I want to be. I’ll continually push myself to grow, and gain experience and confidence. And maybe if someone reads my blog and feels inspired to challenge themselves, push their boundaries and see how life can change… it’ll probably be the most rewarding thing in the world.

Right now I’m continuing that journey through life and falling more in love with the wonderful things the world has to offer, and fighting to change the things it doesn’t. I’m exploring my spirituality, all sorts of amazing new music, diving into incredible books and deeply admiring the arts. I’m a huge music lover, animal lover… the list goes on. I’ll take love over hate any day, and work towards a better future rather than dwell on problems of the past. I’m engaged to be married in December of 2010, to my best friend, whose love and skill in the world of math and science, football and logic complement my rather more artsy, linguistic (and often, all too emotional) personality. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it hadn’t been for this man. And I’m also a mother… to a wonderful little cat, who I absolutely adore to pieces!!

For work, the shortest answer is advertising. I work for a non-profit company dedicated to helping the lives of those in need of assistance in finding employment. I take care of advertising, marketing, design, and teaching the odd class on résumé development or interview skills. We help an enormous variety of people, and being a part of something that really changes people’s lives is incredibly fulfilling.

There isn’t a great deal I dislike, but people who kick the back of your chair, slow walkers in large numbers, the cold, animal cruelty, closed mindedness, and conflict are all surefire ways to make me one very sad panda.

There will always be a soft spot in my heart for William Shakespeare, Geoffrey Chaucer, Neil Gaiman, Mervyn Peake and any other master of the English language that leaves me feeling lucky to have been alive to see such beauty in words. I’m definitely a nerd. I love to curl up with a good book and occasionally wish I had my own personal TARDIS. I’m a sci-fi geek extraordinaire, and proud of it – I have a home-made WoW Night Elf costume! And… I may or may not have travelled to the US – solely to go to a Star Trek convention.

Celebration!

February's pretty much one of the coldest, most awful times of the year here in Winnipeg. You get the post-Christmas "mild" spell, when it'll go up to -10 and everybody will walk around without coats, secretly hoping that this time it's going to carry us through right until summer - and then February hits, along with our annual Festival du Voyageur, a time I associate with dashing into the nearest… Continue

In limbo, and slightly scared

Some of you know I work in a job a really love. I started as receptionist and within a few months was promoted to my current position - this place gets major points for always wanting to recognise somebody's strengths, and put them in a role that allows them to thrive. Since July, I've been in a position where I've been responsible for designing all external advertising, writing copy, organising videos and even doing radio voiceovers (shudder, lol) - as well as being moved to a roomy, b… Continue

Back!! Holiday Re-Cap Time

Well after a week of sun and 24 hours of gruelling late night flights, early morning connections and more than enough hours' worth of time spent lying on an empty airport floor, I finally made it back in one piece! Thank you so very much to Brittney,Continue

A three-week check in (with video!), and a fond farewell

Before I head off for a week full of indulgence in the Caribbean (! – I still can’t quite believe it myself), I figured it’d be a good idea to do a little check-in and see how I was doing on keeping those resolutions I made for the new year. This is the first time I’ve ever formally set out a list of tangible goals for a year, and actually had anyone to really keep me on track – your encouragement, as well… Continue
