I'm embarking on a new project. What is it? Well. . .
about the project
I'm giving my novel away for free, here, via blog, over the course of a
year (give or take a few weeks) in flash fiction-sized bites (ahem,
chapters).
A free novel? For real? Why, yes!
Am I
crazy? Well, I am a writer. But no, like any writer I write to be read!
And currently, I’m not being read, and not from a lack of trying. In
the aftermath of the financial collapse, the realities of the industry
-- more and more presses marked fledgling or temporarily closed to
submissions -- and the prospect of the death of the novel --
prophesized by the prolific and talented Phillip Roth! -- things aren't
all that promising. And the novel I’m selling in particular? Well,
experimental seems code for impossible to market. What am I without
readers, but a deranged woman collecting piles of paper next to her
word processor?
And so. . . I choose to contribute purposefully
versus profitably in this world (after all, I did choose to be a
writer, didn’t I?) and I’ll give my work away for free. All I ask is
for a comment or two from readers (not aiming for much more than this,
folks!) I’ll release a chapter a day, for the first week; then two a
week for the first month; and then one per week until its eventual
completion. Read, follow the blog, and support my ambition of writing
to be read, and perhaps this endeavor will prove the novel is not dead.
. .
about the novel
Dante Doran--narrator and main character in the literary humor novel,
Dante, and the rest of what never happened--is perched atop a steep cliff. He's forty-two years old, inebriated beyond
repair, and he's armed with a tape recorder. Dante has selected this
spot to wait out the return of his estranged ex-girlfriend, Kamla, and
is attempting to write his long anticipated autobiographical novel – a
task that has him questioning his ability to ascertain fact from
fiction, while simultaneously wrestling with the devastating
repercussions of childhood abuse.
the schedule as follows. . .
Chapters 1-5; July 12th - July 16th, posted every day @ 6PM
Chapters 6-13; July 20th - Aug 12th, posted every Tuesday & Thursday @ 6PM
Chapters 14 - completion; August 18th and onward... posted every Wednesday @ 6PM
